Opposites

The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom.  They will bloom with abundant flowers, and rejoice with joyful song. – Isaiah 35

This passage from the prophet Isaiah reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld when George Costanza decides to turn his life around by doing the exact opposite of what he would usually do.  I found this to be an inviting concept. I have plenty of good habits, but not all are in the positive column. In this second week of Advent, as I approach mid-point in this season of waiting, preparing, and putting my life in order, I am reminded that time is short, and maybe George’s method could be of use.

Today, I am going to give it a try.  When I find myself veering into one of my bad habits, I will stop – and do the opposite.  Who is with me?
