O Leader of the House of Israel,
giver of the Law to Moses on Sinai:
come to rescue us with your mighty power!

The original translation calls upon Adonai, which means “my Lord” in Hebrew. It is Adonai, the God of ancient Israel, who gave Moses the Law. Just as Isaiah prophesied, the Law of God will rescue the poor with justice and lift up all those afflicted. It is for all of us to align ourselves with those who suffer in our time, to reach out to them with reach works of compassion, and to be one with them. We must do these things if we are to be judged mercifully at the Lord’s coming in glory.
