“Do you say this on your own, or have others told you about me?” – John 18: 33

We don’t have a monarchy in this country. So when we read scriptures about the Kingship of Christ, we have to stretch our imagination and our frame of reference. What do we mean when we claim Jesus Christ as our King? Do we have the courage to name ourselves as his faithful subjects, right out loud? And if we are living as his faithful subjects, what does that kind of life look like to others?

Jesus Christ suffered and died as a means of redemption for all. He was our King long before the world knew of him, from the moment the Word became Flesh. He lived as one of us, and gave his life freely, showing us exactly what it means to love completely. The question: “Who do you say I am?” must be answered anew every moment of every day, through our actions, our motivations, and our words. If others are to know he is our King, it will be apparent by the way we live our lives in him, loving one another with all our heart and mind and strength.
